Leroy Ma was born in America in 2004. He demonstrated a musical ear at 2 years old by reproducing on the piano a melody which he heard on a DVD. He began to play by ear on the piano at the age of three. At eight years old, he began study with Dr Paul Rickard-Ford and held the scholarship as part of the Open Academy, Rising Stars at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Leroy received his AMusA with a Pass with Distinction when he was 10 years old. He won numerous awards at the Sydney Eisteddfod for many years. In 2015, he won 4th place at the Pearl River Piano Competition in China. Leroy performed as part of the Australian Showcase for the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2016 with much praise from the jury. In 2017 he won 3rd Prize at the 11th International Piano Competition “A Step towards Mastery” in St. Petersburg, Russia where he performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the St. Petersburg State Capella Orchestra. In 2017, Leroy made his debut recital for the Friends of SIPCA at the Goethe Institut Sydney and in 2018 also gave a recital in Gisborne New Zealand. In 2022, he began his tertiary education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying for a Bachelor's in Music (Performance) and a Bachelor of Advanced Studies.
