Liana Cheng was born on Dec 4, 2008, in Hong Kong, China. She started playing the piano at the age of four, initially just playing around the piano. Until 2019, she started to contemplate a career as a professional pianist. Liana frequently performs on stages, including participation in Soirée Musique concerts at GMC Music. She has participated in masterclasses and private lessons with numerous pianists, including Igor Resnianski, Tamás Ungár, Krystian Tkaczewski and Anton Gerzenberg. Liana actively takes part in both domestic and international piano competitions. In the domestic region, she participated in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and achieved victory in the Junior Exhibitioner Award category in 2021. She also won the Piano Concerto (Age 13 or under) category in 2022. By the age of 12, Liana earned accolades in competitions such as being the winner of the Kabalevsky's Young Pioneers Suite Group in 2021 Singapore International Youth Piano Competition, winner in the senior group of 2021 Hong Kong Children & Youth Piano Contest, Grand Prix in the category in Piano Talent of 2021 VI Krystian Tkaczewski International Piano Competition Busko-Zdroj, Poland. Furthermore, she competed in the Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition, securing the third place in the Professional group at the "Hong Kong & Macau Regional" Finals in 2023. Moreover, Liana successfully entered two competitions: the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition for Children and Youth in Poland, where she received a distinction award, and the Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians in Piano Group B. She also participated in the Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition in the Amateur Group of Southern China Regional Finals in 2023, earning the first-place award. Furthermore, she has been honored with scholarships such as the Grantham Music Awards from the Grantham Scholarships Fund in both 2021 and 2022.
